Addressing my audience wants and needs.

My primary audience is female teen. Also I can consider parents teachers as my audiences. This paper is for my class. So my classmate and my instructor are my explicit audience.

As for teen, they think their future is the most important.

For teen, the evidence is the statistic results for researches.
It is also information which is provided by the media.

I think they are going to be interested, because the issue is really serious and they are living with the issue right now. They can be disagree with me. The media still showing many skinny body image. I need more and more evidences to convince them.

I was one of a girl who had low self-esteem and try to lost weight for appearances. I got strong influences by media. That is reason why I choose this topic for my writing.

The media should show and teach about the real body image and real beauty.

The body image by the media is strong influences to teen children. That could cause not only eating disorder, but also low- self-esteems and more.
People should respect who we are.

I reviewed Alexis’s and Oscar’s WP#3 draft papers.
Their topics are both interested to me. And their paper look good to me. As for Alexis, she has some mistakes for the APA style citation. She forget put eh year of publication in parentheses. I found other students did the same mistake. After I reviewed their paper, I noticed I have to have more information for evidences. I realized that the enough information and evidences really help to make the statement more strong.
I turned in my draft too late. I am so sorry. It is totally my fault not to get any comment on my paper.

I reviewed Shawn’s and Jessica’s WP#2 draft papers. Their topics are both interested to me. And they did great job, except Shawn forgot to put retrieved date in hid citation. I also saw few other classmates’ paper, and they did the same mistake. I think this is common mistakes which we should be care about more. After I reviewed their paper, I might need to consider about prospects on my topic.

I got comments on my paper from Shawn and someone (there is no name on the comment). They give me various different perspectives which can consider on my topic. Those really help me to get idea for my writing.

After reading chapter 11, I considered adding lines or changing fonts to organize my paper. So for my paper looks so disorganize. Unfortunately, I already shared my paper before I read this chapter. I will revisions my paper for the final WP#2.

Reading Chapter 11 gave me an idea for my research paper. Before I read this chapter, I never cared about visual effects on my paper. I just follow a required style (Double space, Time New Roma, 12point). I am not sure, we can use color or graphs for this class, but I realized that visual effects are also important to communicate with readers.

After I tried to search with each terms, I realized each terms gave me a little different sources. Especially, when I looked up with “Adolescence”, the search engines gave me statistics information more. And " teen" or other words give me more articles from mothres who have teenager children. I need both statistices infomation and real voices. So I should use both words for looking for sources. I think that terms body image, media, teenager, adolescence, teen, and youth are give me information to fit my writing.

First, I need to do more research to find out various controversial points of my issue. One controversial which I found was that the media already start to tell what real beauty is. As for that point, there are few people to agree that happens. That might be people who related TV or magazines. However, I believe that the most body image which they provide has not changed YET. In fact, there are still many articles about losing weight in many magazines.

Parents who have teenage children, teachers and psychologists might be interested in this research. I found many these groups of people mentioned that the body image made by media gave bad influences to teenager.

D#5,HW#3,Peer Review Reflection

I reviewed two WP#1 of Tedibaer’s and Jaybloom’s. Both of their papers were really good. They have a strong statement to discuss with their audiences.
As for the Tedibaer’s writing, she needs stronger reasons if she wants to have her statement convince the audience.
As for Jay Bloom, his topic was really interesting to me. However, I am confused how he will conclude his writing. After reading their drafts, I noticed that I need to revise my draft. I really think that a strong and persuasive statement is important for research writing, especially in order to get the attention of the audience.
Also, I get one comment from Noe. He gave me to idea that I will give my audience some information which they will encounter. It was the good idea because that make my audience more interested in my writing.

Today’s reading gave me a helpful tip. In chapter 4, I made list of search terms for my writing. I was really surprised that when I searched sources with web search engines, subtle different terms took me different groups of hit. That was really helping me out to find more sources. That gave me a different perspective idea. I still need to research for my writing, so I will use this tip for developing my information to convince my audiences.

I learned that knowing my audience would help me to narrow focus on my research question. The step by step approach is really helpful to think about my writing. Thinking of a question that I would like to answer and then narrowing a topic down through research is very effective. (Chapter3)

I picked a group audience that I will focus on for my research. That audience is women and especially teenagers. They can be one of the most influenced groups by the media. They can not judge the real values of appearances and therefore mimic what is culturally acceptable. The most common way of learning something is to imitate the actions of an authority figure. This is similar to a baby imitating the actions of its parents. Therefore, teenagers turn to various forms of media to help shape their identity.
Influences during these development times can affect the rest of their lives. These influences could potentially be dangerous if taken too far.

Various different groups may invest in my topic. Obviously, women should be interested in understanding how they get influenced by the media. It is possible that many women are aware of the influence that the media has over them.

Nutritionist would be interested in this information to find out the best way to approach women and educate them about proper nutrition. Also teachers and parents who have teenager girls would like to know to make children aware of the media’s projection of women. In my personal opinion, I think the media and celebrity pop culture effect women today.
Many women’s magazines gossip about celebrity’s weight loss or weight gain.
Also, they discuss about techniques to lose weight. This can cause pressure for women to be more like celebrities and lose weight. That can influence women to obsess about appearances.
I have many girl friends who want to lose weight regardless of the fact that they are already skinny. This is a direct influence of the media. So far I can answer my question based on personal experiences that the media and celebrity pop culture create ideal figures and that cause women to obsess over their appearance.

D#2, HW#3,Thinking about Your Writing

1. At my school, I have a problem with registering for classes. When I try to register a class, I can not get in the class because the class is full. This is actually a big issue for me. I am an art major and almost every class I need I have the pre-requisites to take the class. If I am not able to get in the class, then it would make me behind in my graduation. I really need to find out a way for more seats to become available for each art class.

2. This problem has involved many students. Many students have the same situation and it is frustrating. This happens every semester. So the research and conclusion affect others. I have conducted and discussed this issue with other student many times.

3. The main reason for the problem is that the number of seats is much smaller than the amount of majoring students trying to get in.
I went about exploring answers to the problem. I had two suppositions which cause this situation. One is that there is a shortage of teachers in this subject. The other one is lack of funds for new facilities. I researched information about budget for the art school. Also, I asked teachers and graduate students for the information.

4. As for the conclusion, the problem is coming from the low budget for the art school. After I talked to teachers and graduate students about the issue, it emerged that there are plenty of teachers available. Obviously, the lack of budget and small facilities are the cause of this problem.

5. I am satisfied that I had considered all possible options. If I had more time to consider about this issue, the conclusion would be the same.

Hi, eveyone !

My name is Tomoko Uehara.

I am from Japan. I have been in the U.S for 5 years now. I am a major in Art (Metals and Jewlry) at ASU. I am a foreign student, and I still have to really practice English. Therefore, the goal of this class is to improve my writing and literacy skills as much as possible.
After this class I want to be able to write a more fluid paper in English. I hope this class provides me with better sense of literacy in English.
My professional goals include designing and creating produts in the industry.
I am majoring in Metals and Jewelry now, however, in the future I want to try to use my creativity in various industrial fields.
